Former Love Island Contestant Rykard Jenkins caught up in political controversy over Foxberry Boys Red FXB Cap

Thanks to Leigh McManus, MailOnline Reporter for the shoutout. McManus writes an article on the MailOnline how @realdonaldtrump planned to capitalise on former Love Island contestant Rykard Jenkins 360k followers to promote his campaign for re-election in 2020.

We don’t follow politics much, but we know enough that Donald Trump presidential campaign caps for 2020 cannot compare to our classic snapbacks.

Hip Hop’s Influence on Luxury Fashion Brands

Run DMC Cold Chillin in 1985

Run DMC Cold Chillin in 1985

The 1980s and early 90s was an era of fashion statements, freedom of speech, flossing and experimenting. So let’s take some time to appreciate our roots of hip hop fashion because let’s face it, if it wasn’t for Hip Hop icons such as Run DMC, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Notorious BIG, WU Tang Clan and Jay Z we would not have luxury streetwear and hip hop fashion. Hip Hop was a small flame, but without it becoming what it was in the early 1980s infiltrating main stream pop culture it would not have spread like wild fire today.

With many rappers talking about expensive designer clothes in their songs Notorious BIG - “I'm clocking ya, Versace shades watching ya” and wearing them in their rap videos. It didn’t take long for the Hip Hop artists to realise these fashion companies were happy for them to promote their brands whilst keeping them at arms length and reaping all the financial benefits from their status and listeners. It was thought that urban communities would cheapen luxury brand names. The Hip Hop industry quickly began to tire from the luxury brand knock backs and decided to turn rejection into a statement of intent, creating clothes for fans who, like them, were at best only ever endured by the establishment. Like their music, their clothes reflected reality of what was happening within their community. The first to launch their own brand was Wu Tang Clan, with Wu Wear, then followed artists such as Diddy who launched Sean John, and Jay Z launched Rocawear. These artists realised their was a gap in market and they could control what they promoted and how they were rewarded. This was the rise of so-called urban fashion.

It was no coincidence that this b-boy culture instigated a popularity in sportswear brands such as Adidas, PUMA, FILA and Reebok who started forming relationships with rappers, as their branding technique and selling point, to exploit both the fashion and music industry’s commercial potential.

Alexander Wang, a big fan of hiphop music himself, also created a streetwear collection, “Do Something” claiming that hip-hop music “is the most relevant genre of music that speaks to me and our generation”. Recently, street style has also been hybridizing with more high fashion tastes. Louis Vuitton, for instance, collaborated with Kanye West for an exclusive shoe model.

Kanye West has spent most of his career complaining that he’s not taken seriously as a designer, and while his first attempts at high fashion bombed, with Yeezy he’s become a model for the kind of power and influence rappers can have over fashion and, more importantly, business. Before Kanye, rappers were lucky to be paid to wear a brand’s clothes. Now, they’re at the controls.

Nowadays, the number of expensive street-style brands have been increasing; leveraging the value of casual, swagger high fashion. Partly due to the mainstream acceptance of rappers and DJs as icons in the past few decades. The recent flux of pricier, casual streetwear brands defies the concept of “high fashion” prior to this multifaceted phenomenon, that was once ruled exclusively by the fashion elite and viewed to be untouchable.

A Guide on How to Wear Your Snapback

What is a snapback?

Rapper, Tyga

Rapper, Tyga

The history of the snapback was given rise from the american sport baseball, but don’t get it twisted this is not baseball cap. Although the two are similar in nature, they do have differences. The snapback gets its name from an adjustable strap or as we like to call it “snap” at its back, which makes it a one-size-fits-all style. Baseball caps, on the other hand, are fitted and cannot be adjusted. Snapbacks also have a flat peak and six panels that make up the cap and result in a high dome toward the front. This shape provides the snapback with its unique appearance and a larger space around the cap to allow for premium customisation with print, embroidery and badges.

How to Choose a Snapback

Selecting a snapback is definitely down to personal preference. Our Foxberry Boys snapback collection comes in a variety of designs and colourways, you can always find the right one for you by picking one that suits your personality and style. If you find you are struggling to choose, think about your desired look you are going for and go from there. If you’re interested in sports, you can choose our Trademark Fox Logo snap or if you prefer a minimal aesthetic, try a more simplistic design. However if you are still struggling to find your style or new to the cap game, why not stick to a simple and classic design like our Foxberry Boys Signature design in black. This way we guarantee your cap will compliment whatever outfit you pair it with.

The Snapback Hip-Hop Look

The history of Hip-Hop music gave rise to the snapback style. The rappers cool attitude and outfits go well together with a edgy snapback making them a popular must have accessory. Choose a snapback that makes a sleek and bold statement, such as our FXB design with white embroidery. Make sure you wear it with the brim facing forward and complete your outfit with an oversized, graphic tee, ripped black jeans or shorts, and sneakers.

How to wear a snapback

Zayn Malik rocking his Foxberry Boys snap backwards

Zayn Malik rocking his Foxberry Boys snap backwards

Wearing your snapback forward is the most common and classic position. Its safe to say wearing your snapback forward presents a clean appearance and stylish fashion statement especially with streetwear outfits creating that urban style. However a more confident man can also wear one backwards. Be careful though because if your outfit is not on point your look can appear to be outdate if your snap is worn in the wrong way or with the wrong outfit. To pull off wearing a snapback backwards, pair it with modern and contemporary styles and designs. Also, remember to keep your outfit casual as the look projects a relaxed and carefree attitude. Aim for an urban style with streetwear and be sure to wear the cap high on your head on a downwards slant backwards.

Finally, remember there are a few rules to wearing snapbacks.

  • Never wear a snapback with formal clothing.

  • Do not bend the peak, they wear made like this for a reason. If you would like a curved peak cap we suggest you go for our very popular Sports Luxe Baseball cap.

  • Do not twist your snapback sideways, straight forward front or to the back are the only ways.

  • Remember your age, if your wearing a snapback at an older age, you may appear to be hanging on to your youth. But who are we to stop

Millwall Talisman Steve Morison 85th minute goal puts them back to the Championship

Foxberry Boys want to congratulate Byron Webster and his teammates this weekend on Millwall FC 1-0 League One Playoff Final triumph over Bradford City FC. The game was evenly matched with both teams missing chances in the first half. Although Bradford had the better opportunities and most of the possession, it was Millwall's veteran striker Steve Morison who stabbed home the 85th minute winner to catapult Millwall back into the EFL Championship and send the fans into dream land and spark a pitch invasion.

Bruno Mars 24k World Tour 2017 Review

upload.jpg

What a great start to the weekend - You'd be hard pushed to find a artist that sounds the same live like he does on the album, but boy did he deliver- In our opinion this was nothing short of pure showmanship, opening with some funky Doowop tunes from his 90s RnB inspired 24k Magic album. We were treated to some smooth vocals, live band and cool street dance moves support by his crew 'The Hooligans'. It was a party from beginning to end.

Bruno Mars Concert Set List

1. 24k Magic, 2. Chunky, 3. Versace on the floor, 4. Just the way you are, 5. Uptown Funk, 6. Marry You; 7. Grenade; 8. Locked Out of Heaven; 9. When I was your man; 10. Billionaire; 11. Guerilla; 12. Runaway Baby; 13. Natalie

bruno twist.jpg

Bruno's band 'The Hooligans' definitely entertained and we got to see a side of Bruno's personality funny and an element of being young at heart.

Foxberry Boys could definitely relate to the old skool dance moves, melodies and B-Boy style  - White and Black Classic Nike Cortez Trainers and snapback worn by Bruno Mars and a few of the band members on stage.

Notably the white and black XXIV snapback worn by Bruno Mars is similar to our classic Original Foxberry Boys snapback
