A Review of LFW 2016 Highlights

True to British form - the weather was a little over cast, but nothing would stop the hype surrounding London Fashion Week. The atmosphere was definitely unexplainable in the capital that has inspired the collection of Foxberry Boys and brought many fashionistas from around the world together to inspire one another and to pay respect to the craft of talented designers.

So we decided immerse ourselves in the atmosphere, connect with fashion enthusiasts on the streets of London who dare to break boundaries in social conceptions of dress code and support the well known designers and those upcoming coming through University and start ups.

The demand for menswear is booming and it's all due to the rise of style smart consumers, for whom are more likely to buy accessories to give their outfit that personalized touch.

Therefore Foxberry Boys decided to mingle with, and check out the cap game of the street fashionistas and the talented catwalk designers showcasing their accessory collection.

With very little time to stop and eat, we visited Carnaby Street, Brewers Street Car Park, Grand Connaught Rooms and London Spitafields Market. Inspired by some talented artwork and craft, for me Allan Vos luxury underwear and Victor Wong sunglasses collections were my favourites. Victor Wong sunglasses collection was definitely a firm favourite. The contrast between the garments and eyewear. The designs had edge, the collection was presented to seamless precession to music and the models wearing the eyewear were carefully chosen to represent the look.

4 MONEY SAVING HACKS FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

1. Open up a student bank account.

You probably already have a Student bank account, however for those who haven't got there's yet here are some great benefits to opening up an account that is dedicated to students specifically.

Firstly and most importantly you get an interest free overdraft. Foxberry boys would advice against getting loans and things like that, but interest free money is a great way to tide yourself over if you’re short on rent, food, or if you’re waiting for your student loan to drop. There are also other amazing benefits with a student account like this, such as free taste card and coach card for example which gives you a 1/3rd off coach fares – an absolute God send. We all know that city hopping to visit home (or even just for that unmissable party) is simply a must during uni.

2. Get Active

Exercise really can make a world of difference. Get gym memebership; it's a great way to socialise, here about the house parties and generally keep fit (as you may well know a lot of junk eating and beer is consumed in the first couple months).

Another way to the proactive get some regular 'money' coming in. I always say get creative and use some of the talents you have to generate an income. I’m a firm believer that if you have a skill/you can make some money e.g. selling a product (buying something at a lower price and selling it for more is a great way to be savvy) or got great photography skills (get involved in night club student night photography).

I personally know people that started student barber shops they bought themselves some essential hair cutting tools  and basically kept the guys on campus looking fresh. Something like having an interest free overdraft would definitely help to get initiatives like this off the ground so get creative.

3. The 3 F’s – Food, Family, Friends

These 3 F’s are the best medicine for the soul and gives me a confidence boost on days when I am not feeling 100. Being with my family and friends, enjoying good food always brings out the best version of me. I like to jump on a phone call, or invite the squad over for a group effort meal and a games, instantly I always feel better.

4. If you’re going to shop, shop smart! – NUS Extra Card is a must for discounts, offers for household, fashion and entertainment items. Back as it again if you have student banking Santander offers free 16-25 rail card for 4 year (what a whopper that saves you £100) or bank with NatWest and receive taste  cards up to 50% off 100s of eateries.

**Do your homework - look out for grants and opportunities out there for you as a student I was able to get a free iPad and money towards printing allowance a great savings!

V Festival 21st Birthday Celeb Style Watch

V Festival was celebrating their 21st birthday this year and boy did they put on an all-out pop festival, opting to go for its first pair of pop titans for headliners with Justin Bieber and Rihanna. Both headline artists and supporting acts did not fail to disappoint the British public as they partied away under typical unpredictable weather conditions. So out came the Hunter wellies, Rain macs and the ever popular low profile basebal l caps and snapbacks to ensure they enjoyed the festival in comfort. Foxberry Boys had access to The Virgin Media, Mahiki Rum’s VIP area and we managed to catch up with A-List celebrities and soak up the atmosphere, sipping on pineapple cocktails and dancing to DJs playing chart hits.

Whilst journalists found the Mark Wright and Danny Dyer encounter pretty much the topic of debate this weekend, other A-List celebrities such as Craig David and Tinie Tempah decided to adopt a more subtle macho camouflage print style and blend into the background. Notably Marvin Humes, CapitalFM and TV Presenter chose to wear our very own Foxberry Boys Camouflage Trucker.

British Summer Time Festival @ Hyde Park

The highlight of the British Summer Time Festival weekend was Steven Wonder on stage at the British Summer Time Festival on Sunday 10th July - tickets sold out weeks before the show was to begin, which was not a surprise as other headline acts were Pharell Williams and Corinne Bailey Rae. Each day of the British Summer Time Festival at Hyde park looked to provide music from around the world and an array of music talent from different genres.

We were lucky enough to gain tickets for the Friday, 1st July - Massive Attack. With performances by Young Fathers, PREP and Patti smith and her band. The vocalist GhostPoet was one of the new sounds at this years BSTHydePark, the young Nigerian performed songs from his mercury prize  nominated album 'Shedding Skin'

I was personally delighted to have some summer sun on Friday 1st July to make the day at BSTHydePark all that bit more epic. On the second weekend, the BSTHydePark stage saw the highlights of Mumford and sons, Take That and even fan spotting singer Niall Horan from boy band One Direction.

Ella Eyre, 22, certainly made the most of her opportunity supporting the group as she poured her all into her afternoon set at the leafy location in the capital.

The Deeper singer put on a busty display in a figure-hugging catsuit with a sheer panel revealing plenty of cleavages.

The cheeky chappie Olly Murs on stage , looking very dapper in a fully buttoned white shirt and a pair of black trousers. He sported his familiar well-coiffed quiff and some designer stubble for the lively set.

Take That didn't disappoint the tens of thousands of fans who flocked to Hyde Park on Saturday 9th July. Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald were at their entertaining best as they made their way through the band's hit-filled back catalogue.

Straight out of Foxberry Road

London, SE4

London, SE4

Yesterday I got to see the film 'Straight Outta Compton' at the Odeon cinema at my local neighbourhood and although I am know expert film critic I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it and I would definitely give the film a 5 star rating.

In the movie there is a scene backstage where DJ Yella is chastised by Easy E before a concert because he is wearing a yellow vest. The N.W.A colour scheme was black and silver like their football team, LA Raiders. This was crucial. It was as much a part of their star power, as tracks that expressed the blistering anger of young black men on the streets of LA in the eighties. Like N.W.A, Foxberry Boys knew the power of image and branded themselves creating the fox logo to represent the name which derived from Foxberry Road, London, SE4.

NWA’s monochrome streetwear has even influenced how young men dress now. Inspired by contemporary rappers who are also style influencers such as Drake and ASAP Rocky.  The great thing about NWA’s look is how easy it is to put together. That’s probably the thing that made them, a group of kids with little disposable income for designer clothes, do it in the first place. One Snapback (Foxberry Boys) white T-shirt (Topman) and a pair of black jeans (Topman) and you’re sorted.

It’s hard to put into words how I really like this movie. But I would recommend that if you like rap or just want a piece of a history lesson, this movie is it. It takes in every aspect of the essential roots of these men from Compton into what rap has become in our society. It’s real. It’s powerful. It’s a must-watch.

History of the Snapback

Welcome to The Diary of the Original Foxberry Boys and our first blog on the history of the Snapback hat.

The Snapback trend started in the 1990’s in the USA, urban areas such as New York and Los Angeles were the main birthplaces. The style was adopted by some of the biggest Rap artists and RnB music groups of that era and the trend has been growing ever since. In the early stages the Snapbacks were used to represent the two coasts of America. West coast people such as N.W.A, wore hats that represented the Los Angeles suburb of Compton. On the other side of the country, groups such as Mobb Deep wore hats that had New York boroughs stitched on such as Brooklyn and Queens. I think it would be hard pushed to find someone who does not own a Snapback in this day and age. Everyone now is wearing and collecting Snapback hats, matching them with their clothes, and looking fresh.

Snapbacks have stayed at the top of one of the most purchased fashion accessories as fashion icons such as Jay-Z, Beyonce; Boyz II Men, Chris Brown; David Beckham, Jodeci and P Diddy to name a few have been wearing them.

The youth culture and hip hop fashion have popularized the Snapback, although it is now popular among many other groups and ages. Snapbacks are far less expensive than fitted baseball caps and have become increasingly trendy in the urban fashion industry.
